From the Principal's Office
Dear Community Members,
I would like to welcome everyone to the 2017-2018 school year. We are looking forward to continuing initiatives begun during the past school year, as well as launching new ones.

During this summer 5 teachers spent 4 days in training in the Responsive Classroom approach. With this complete, all of our classroom teachers are fully trained and prepared for implementation. Students will start the year by discussing how they will like their classroom to function, setting guidelines and expectations. They will also take part in regular morning meetings and will apply social and emotional learning skills learned during games and welcoming activities.

In the area of technology, we have added 24 ChromeBooks for use in classrooms. We will continue to use IXL, and keyboarding skills will be taught in grades 3 and 4 using the online tool Keyboarding Without Tears.

This year you will also see the introduction of a new food-services program. We are excited to welcome Sidekim, which will cook our lunches fresh each day. To support meals with fresh ingredients, families will order lunches for the following week by Wednesday. An order form will be used to collect the order information and provide a digital menu to view. Payment will continue to be sent in with students, while we explore online payment options.

Finally, I would like to invite you to a few welcome-back events. On August 30th the PTO will host a Parent Breakfast in the cafeteria following drop-off. On Wednesday, September 6th the school will host an Open House, where you will have an opportunity to meet your student's classroom teacher, as well as other school staff.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
Kevin Andrews
